midnight thoughts on people and machines
I'm spending a lot of time at the moment thinking about technology, and technology spaces. I'm in these for work, friends, enthusiasm for creative projects that rely on technologies. I think it's easy to lose sight of what makes these spaces tick, where value is produced.
I've been thinking a lot about how people think of themselves once they internalise using AI as a part of who they are. I've been talking and thinking a lot about how this can be undone, if it can be undone. I know people who view others as infected. I know people who are forced to use these tools. I know people are bought-in. I know people who were briefly bought-in, then fell out. I think about the rhetoric of addiction and recovery, the rhetoric of nuclear disarmament, the rhetoric of reducing lanes in a street and replacing them with wider pavements and cycle lanes.
I need to believe in de-escalation, in off-ramps, in community harm reduction. This is where I'm at, I think.
